Cheetah Conservation the rescue, care and reintroduction to the wild of Namibia's endangered cheetah
Saving Namibia's Cheetah
Lise Hanssen, founder of the "Africat Foundation" has been instrumental in the rescuing and rehabilitation of more than 250 cheetah. In the last nine years she has learned to doctor the wounds of the predators, take blood samples for research purposes and to monitor the cats and release them where possible. Her work takes her all over Namibia. She will sometimes drive for 10 hours to collect a cat that has been caught in a trap, wounded by a farmer or kept in captivity in a tiny cage. 95% of the cheetah in Namibia live unprotected on farmland and are at the mercy of farmers who would rather kill them than risk stock losses.
This story investigates this extraordinary woman's passion to save the endangered Namibian cheetah.
